How to Use Heatless Curlers: A Step-by-Step Guide

What You’ll Need:

  • Heatless curling rod or rollers

    • Pretty Pick: This heatless curling set for soft, luxurious curls. It’s not uncomfortable to sleep in- it feels squishy like a pillow. You also only have to leave these in for 60-90 minutes until your hair is fully dry. Depending on how much time you have in the morning, you can skip sleeping in them.

  • A wide-tooth or teasing comb

  • Lightweight leave-in conditioner or styling cream

  • Hair clips and scrunchies

Instructions & Tutorial Video

  1. Start with Dry Hair:
After washing your hair, allow it to air-dry. 85% dry is ok. Alternatively, spritz dry hair with water to lightly dampen it.

  2. Apply a Leave-In Product:
Work a lightweight leave-in conditioner or styling cream through your hair to hydrate and enhance curl hold.

  3. Section Your Hair:
Divide your hair into two sections, depending on thickness. Use clips to keep sections manageable.

  4. Wrap Your Hair Around the Heatless Curler:
Place the heatless curling rod or roller on top of your head like a headband. Note: For voluminous bangs, you can place your bang section in a self grip hair roller and place the heatless curling rod through this section. Starting with the front pieces, wrap small sections of hair around the rod, away from your face. Keep the sections tight and when you get to the end, move the hair up on the curling rod. Secure the ends with a silk scrunchie.

  5. Repeat on the Other Side:
Wrap the remaining sections, making sure the curls are even and tight against the rod.

  6. Sleep On It:

Crisscross the ends and wrap around your head creating a bow at your forehead. This method is SO much easier to sleep in than the bulky foam curlers. Believe us, we have tried them all- for science! Secure the curling rod so it stays in place overnight. You can place a silk scarf or wrap around your head overnight to prevent friction, or just sleep on a silk pillowcase. Our favorite brand is here.

  7. Unravel and Style:
In the morning, gently remove the rod or rollers. Run your fingers through the root area to blend together any harsh parts. Spray or leave until you are ready to head out. At that point, you can finger-comb your curls for a soft, natural look, and finish with a light-hold hairspray or humidity blocker if needed.

💡 Kelsey’s Bonus Tip: “For an ultra-polished look, apply a drop of hair oil like Davines Oi Oil to your ends or a shine spray after releasing the curls. It adds shine and smoothness while keeping your hair healthy. We always get comments on how good this oil smells in the studio.”
